Scouting’s founder Lord Robert Baden-Powell’s birthday was celebrated on BP Sunday at the Johannesburg Zoo by hundreds of Scouts. Troops from the Gauteng North West Scouting Districts gathered in honour of his life and achievements and handed out service awards to Troop Scouters for years of service.
The theme for this year was “In the footsteps of Baden-Powell, Scouts leave a lasting mark in their communities”. When addressing the Scouting members present, Chief Scout Sibusiso Vilane reiterated this message. He urged the Scouts to encourage their peers to join the Scout Movement and reap the benefits of spending time outdoors. He also encouraged parents to volunteer their time and give back to Scouting and their communities.
