On the 6th of September 2014 over 1,400 Cubs and Scouts from the KZN Region are taking part in the Annual SCOUTS South Africa Rally. This year the event will take place from 08h00 to 15h00 at the Outdoor Centre in Ladysmith. Minister of Finance Nhlanhla Nene and Chief Scout Sibusiso Vilane will be attending the event hosted by SCOUTS South Africa with the support of the Department of Education, KwaZulu-Natal.
For the past two months Cub and Scout groups throughout the province have competed in district skill competitions. The winners of each district will now come together for this exciting Rally and showcase their talents and knowledge while competing to be the best of the province! The various skills and knowledge events include cooking a meal without using any utensils, first aid presentations, knowledge on HIV & AIDS Prevention, the values embedded in the Scout Promise and Law, their environment and national symbols. Per event prizes are up for grabs as well as the title of Best Scout Troop and Best Cub Pack of the Province for 2014. The travel expenses of the participants have been funded by local government.
The event aims to encourage good competitive and team spirits, but also strives to let the children and youths showcase their acquired skills and to promote what they have learnt through Scouting. Over 1,400 Cubs and Scouts will take part in the competition and more than 1,000 Cubs and Scouts are expected to cheer them on.
Every year the Rally is hosted in a different district, the districts bid on hosting the event and a winner is selected. This year it is Ladysmith that is welcoming young and old to have some good fun with a purpose!
