In 2024, JOTA-JOTI takes place from 18 to 20 October. The dynamic programme includes a variety of non-formal educational activities, including webinars, global campfires, talent shows, live shows, fun challenges and more through an interactive 3D campsite. JOTA-JOTI aims to support young people of all ages to learn about communication technology, the values of global citizenship, and their role in creating a better world.
JOTA JOTI, the world’s largest digital Scout event and brings together more than 2 million Scouts every year for a weekend of Scouting and friendship. Young people can learn about communication technology and connect with fellow Scouts from over 174 countries.
The theme for JOTA-JOTI 2024 is “Scouts for a Greener World” and is centered on the idea of supporting young people to connect to each other and to nature throughout the event while making a commitment to sustainability. The theme reinforces the importance of collective action and youth leadership in addressing pressing environmental challenge and serves as a call to action for Scouts to champion sustainability and strive towards creating a healthier and more resilient planet for future generations. #Wellness #scouts4sdgs #SDG2 #SDG6 #SDG7 #SDG11 #SDG12 #SDG13 #SDG14 #SDG15 #SDG17
During JOTA-JOTI, Scouts will learn how they can contribute to the preservation of biodiversity and fight climate change, while also developing the skills necessary to take action to protect our planet. The event will provide a space through online and offline activities for Scouts to enhance their environmental consciousness, exchange ideas about eco-friendly and sustainable practices, become empowered to develop green skills, and learn ways they can become advocates for greening communities.

What do you need for JOTA or JOTI?
Before registering, for either JOTA “Jamboree of the Air”, or JOTI “Jamboree on the Internet”, have a read through the requirements and decide what you can do.
- For JOTA, you will need a Radio Ham to assist. Sufficient time is required to arrange this. There are plenty around the country. Contact SSA’s National JOTA JOTI Coordinator Richard Hooper for assistance Richard.hooper@scouts.org.za
- For a JOTI event, all you need is a computer and an internet connection. All the details are online and available to you when registrations open.
- Safe from Harm: Scouters organising a JOTA or JOTI base will need to do the online SfH3 (online safety) training. It is a quick and comprehensive online WOSM course. Where possible, it is advisable to run through the course with participating Scouts and Rovers.
It’s not difficult to setup an event at your Scout Hall. All you need is a couple of Cubs and Scouts and a Scouter or two to organize the weekend. It’s a great opportunity to have Pack and Troop working together. Run a badge or two over the weekend and take part in the International games and competitions. No need to run the entire weekend either; you choose what days to run according to your Group’s schedule. The busiest times are on the Saturday.
