Meet the Team #2ARM

Damian La Houd

  • Region: Gauteng
  • Role at ARM: Chair Organizing Committee
  • Why am I perfect for this role?
My Scouting journey spans over three decades, and I spent a year as a Scout in Sweden before returning to South Africa and joining the Phoenix Rover Crew where I was awarded the BP Award in 2021. I am also a Rover Wood Badge holder and currently a member of the Gauteng Rover STM. With a professional career in business consulting, I have the perfect blend of governance, team leading, and methodologies to drive us to success.
  • What am I looking forward to the most?
Being able to lead a project that showcases what SCOUTS South Africa can do, and to share the joy that this organisation brings to me with the rest of the world.
  • What don’t people know about me?
Recently, I conquered Kilimanjaro, raising R58,950 for charity. I am a father of 2, and have been part of the Rotary Club as a volunteer.

Callan Peters

  • Role at ARM: Camp Chief
  • Why am I perfect for this role?
With 7 years experience as a Rover at Phoenix Rover Crew, hosted at Arrowe Park, and a Troop Scouter of 6th Benoni Scouts, I have hosted countless camps and activities at Arrowe Park. I know the site in and out. The camp grounds will be in good hands through my leadership, coordination and organisational skills.
  • What am I looking forward to the most?
Learning about other cultures and seeing a global community in our own back yard.
  • What don’t people know about you?
I am an A-license certified Sky Diver and a HUGE nerd. My favorite superhero is Spiderman.

Dawn Ledbitter

  • Region: Gauteng
  • Role at ARM: Marketing and Communications Chair
  • Why am I perfect for this role?
I have a strong passion for connecting people with each other and I always say that my network is my strength. I am reprising the role form Sanjamb 2017 where I carried a successful portfolio which is a great experience to draw from. I have an in-depth understanding of the communication structures between all our stakeholders and can lead a creative team to success. I achieved my Rover Woodbadge in 2022, my BP Award in 2021 and currently am the Regional Team Coordinator for Rovers in Gauteng, so I have an in-depth understanding of what Rovers enjoy.
  • What am I looking forward to the most?
Meeting Rovers from all over the world and sharing the greatness of Scouting in South Africa. We have a unique offering as South Africans, with our perfect blend of adventure and diversity and I can’t wait to see it all happen!
  • What people don’t know about me:
I am a very active person! I’m either dancing, running, swimming or ice-skating and absolutely love to move my body. I am also a polyglot in the making; learning isiZulu, Portuguese and French so that I can communicate with our friends all over the continent! Also , I have an Honours Degree in Performing Arts from the University of Pretoria, so that’s where I get my dramatic flair from!

Peter le Roux

  • Region: Gauteng
  • Role at ARM: Activities Lead
  • Why am I perfect for this role?
I’ve been camping at Arrowe Park since I was a Cub. We’ve hosted Meerkats, Cubs, Scouts and Rovers here and I’ve been involved in everything from camping in treehouses to talking to Scouts in Japan on the radio at JOTA JOTI.
  • What am I looking forward to the most?
Welcoming people from across Africa and around the world to Arrowe Park , and seeing how similar our experiences and values are even though we are coming from very different places.
  • What don’t people know about you?
When I’m not Scouting I play a few musical instruments, including a fretless bass guitar I built myself.

Robert Hill

  • Region: Western Cape
  • Role at ARM: Logistics

I have a passion for Rovering, and this is my opportunity to give back and work with a team of amazing people as we work towards a spectacular event for Rovers from across Africa, and the world.
  • What am I looking forward to the most?
I’m most looking forward to meeting a bunch of like-minded people from all over, and to making new connections, memories and experiences.
  • What don’t people know about me?
I’m a huge fan of snail mail (weird, I know). So if you’re going on holiday to an exotic location (like Timbuktu or Upington), feel free to pop me a postcard at PO Box 657, George, 6530 and I promise to reply!

Rochelle Booyens

  • Region: Gauteng
  • Role at ARM: Finance & Admin Team Lead
  • Why am I perfect for this role?
I have a background in event management and leadership within the Scouting community. I was the National Chair for Akela 2016 and the Admin Team Leader for the 2018 Rover Moot. I led the Akela 2016 International event with approximately 300 participants over four days to celebrate Cub Scouting’s 100th anniversary. In 2018, I supported Peter Le Roux for the Rover Moot, assisting with administration and mentoring the team on event planning and management. Additionally, I’ve organised three Pow Wows – national events for Pack Scouters. I have a passion for coordinating large-scale events and mentoring fellow leaders, even though I am not a Rover myself.
  • What am I looking forward to the most?
I’m excited to help create a successful, well-organised event filled with engaging activities and seamless interactions between the team and participants from around the world. I hope to see Arrowe Park brimming with energy, hosting a full house.
  • What people don’t know about me?
I had the unforgettable experience of visiting the UK in 2017, where I met the Chief Scout at Gilwell Park. It was truly a once-in-a-lifetime encounter. Four years ago, I also embarked on a journey to live a healthier life. This change has taught me to embrace challenges and persevere.
