Introduction to the 7th Africa Scout Jamboree
The 7th Africa Scout Jamboree will be held from 1st – 10th August 2016 in Yamoussoukro, Côte d’Ivoire. The event, organized by the Africa Scout Region and hosted by Fédération Ivoirienne du Scoutisme, is expected to attract over 6,000 young people from all over Africa and beyond.
The Africa Scout Jamboree is the largest regular event organized by the Africa Scout Region, gathering over 6,000 young people from all over Africa and the world. It is above all an educational event to promote peace and understanding. The Africa Scout jamboree includes a wide variety of activities and also places great importance to the everyday life and interaction on the campsite.
Dates: 1 – 10 August 2016 Participants will arrive on 1st August and depart on 10th August 2016. Those who may wish to arrive earlier or depart later than the stated dates may contact the host for assistance with the pre and post jamboree programmes. Members of the IST will arrive on 20th July 2019.
Venue: Yamoussoukro, Côte d’Ivoire
Theme: The theme for the 7th Africa scout Jamboree is “Empowered Youth in an Emerging Africa” with three sub themes: responsibility towards self, responsibility towards others and responsibility towards Africa
Participants: Participants must be 12-17 years old at the time of the event. If you are 18 or older you can take [art as International Service Team (IST, volunteer staff).
Registration: The Jamboree registration fee is sixty dollars (USD 60) for countries in Fees categories A and B and one hundred and twenty dollars (USD 120) for countries in categories C and D.
Camping: Each contingent should ensure that its members have adequate tentage. Participants should also carry along personal effects including change of clothes, warm clothing, sleeping bag, toiletry, spoon, cup, plate, spotlight, sport shoes, a pair of Scout Uniform. Each contingent is also required to carry 2 national flags.
Programme: The Jamboree programme will include a wide range of activities and special events. Key among them are: Africa Development Village, cultural activities, sub camp life, sports and hunts, free time for participants to interact among themselves and to discover more about Côte d’Ivoire and other special events.
Visas: All visitors to Côte d’Ivoire must obtain a visa from one of the Ivorian diplomatic missions unless they come from one of the visa exempt countries. Visitors must hold a passport valid for at least 6 months. Possession of international yellow fever vaccination certificate is a mandatory requirement for most travellers to Côte d’Ivoire.
